Are you bringing your new-born Baby home?

You must be preparing your Home to welcome a new Life. Beside collecting the essentials, you also need to ensure the clean and germ-free Indoor environment for you and your Baby.

Indoor air can be 5x more polluted than outdoor air! Indoor air pollutants have been ranked among the top environmental risks to health.

Here’s how to reduce the indoor air-pollution before bringing baby Home:

What needs to be done to counter the indoor air pollution? To begin with-

Bring these House-plants

There are few indoor plants that clean the air and remove toxins.

houseplants that helps clean the air

  1. Snake Plant/Mother-in-Law’s Tongue
  2. Bamboo Palm
  3. Golden Pothos
  4. Boston Fern
  5. Aloe Vera
  6. Song of India
  7. Rubber Plants
  8. Spider plant

These plants help remove formaldehyde and purify air to your home for a safer, cleaner atmosphere.

Ensure proper maintenance of Electronic Devices and equipments

Poorly maintained Air-conditioners and Air-coolers develop mold and remains unseen but it contaminates the air whenever we operate it.

Fans and chimneys in kitchen also accumulate dust. Clean them regularly to avoid the allergies due to dust.

Ensure sufficient ventilation

With air conditioners installed in every room, there is a low possibility of open windows and ventilators.

Keep your windows open early morning as air outside at this time is fresh and pollution free.

Let the sun rays enter the house as it removes the humidity from air thus prevents growth of fungus and dust mites.

Check for VOC emitting sources

VOC stands for volatile organic compound and is carcinogenic and causes breathing difficulty when inhaled regularly.

Formaldehyde, a volatile organic compound that’s emitted in low levels by a variety of furnishings, upholstery, synthetic building materials, and cleaning products in homes and offices.

Paints and varnishes on walls and furniture too emit VOC (Volatile organic compound)  and may have compounding long-term health effects.

To counter this, Asian Paints has come up with activated carbon based paints that reduces formaldehyde in the environment. A Paint that helps purify air.  It’s activated carbon technology reduces harmful air pollutants and makes the air cleaner.

Clean the carpets and other dirt-accumulating areas

Carpets and Curtains should be regularly washed/vacuumed.

Bed spreads and Pillow covers should be regularly changed.

Any other open uncovered area should be cleaned properly to avoid accumulation of dust such as spaces above the Wardrobes or Curtain Pelmets.

Incense sticks and Room Fresheners

Air fresheners is not the solution but rather we should look for Air-cleaning methods.

Do not burn incense stick inside for long.

Do not install auto room-fresheners inside as these fragrant chemicals may produce harmful substances when mixed with air and can cause breathing problems later.

Use natural cleaning agents such as Baking soda and Vinegar rather than chemical or acid based that emit acidic fumes when exposed to air.

  1. Do not smoke inside the house.
  2. Parents should watch for signs of infection in their newborn.
