From Verandah to Balcony: A Journey

September 22, 2015

This is a journey from my First Home to the one gifted by an Institution called Marriage.

Marriage changes our life for forever- our favorite room or corner, our belongings, our City, our priorities but What I miss the most from my ex-home is The Verandah.

There are so many GOOD memories which make me like it more than a Balcony.

The front Verandah of the home: Traditional chips flooring, a folding bed, 2 tall trees, a small garden with few plants and green grass cover.

WINTERS AND MOTHER’S LOVE

Sun bath and Motherly Massage:

We used to enjoy Sun bath lying on a bed in Front Porch of the house after coming back from school . I remember when Mother used to treat us with oil massage. At that time, we were so reluctant but now, I am really thankful to her and miss those badly.

Health packed Lunch:

Over the weekends, we used to enjoy lunch having Fruits, Salads and Sprouts under the warmth of Sun.

VENDORS GALORE

verandah

water-bike-card-1It was so easy to avail the services of Scrap collection and other household repairs. There were many street vendors calling aloud-

Paperwallas
Knife sharpening wallas
etc. etc.

Our favorites were-

Baloon wallas
and Candy selling carts

GO GREEN

We used to buy Green Chickpea bush (Cholia traditionally) and relish it plucking one by one.

green peas                                               Helping my Mother in cleaning of Sarso Saag was another weekend task which we enjoyed sarsoa lot.

Back Verandah had lot to offer too.

SWING AND SWIRL

A cane swing which was our favorite for a small nap in the morning or enjoying with friends. When sad, it was our favorite hideout.

The time has passed but the Swing is still there;Little shabby but linked with so many memories. Now, my Son enjoys it sitting on her Gradma’s Lap.

NATURE’S LEAP

Grape arbor, Lemon and Guava trees, Vegetable plants- usually visited by Cats, Birds and other slow moving creatures- I remind myself of all these time and again.
The mere memory of these give me goose bumps and make me wish to go back in time.
