Greensole – From Landfills to needy feet

July 31, 2017
GREENSOLE

Two College students were struck by the idea of refurbishing old thrown away sports shoes to make Slippers available for the needy ones.

They had no technical knowledge but only an idea based on the fact that “Globally 350 million shoes end up in landfills every year”.

So together they set to work educating themselves. The soles were used to make the base of the slippers, the uppers gave way to make the sandal straps and lastly the laces were used to pack the shoes.

They are running a crowdfunding campaign and reaching out to the community to support their efforts. Greensole were selected among the top 30 innovators of India by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India.

Not only this but they are planning to set up Skill Development Centres wherein, people will be trained to refurbish old pair of shoes.
