Does my Job matches my lifestyle expectation?- A very obvious question for a person who is heading towards 30s and bidding farewell to all the good things which 20s offer.
When I was attending the trainings conducted by MNC (my second job), there were many whose answer to their dream job was different from the one they had in their hands. And this includes me as well.
We all were different just the day before- Some were into Electronics, some into Civil, some into Mechanical.
But then, we all were converted into ITians and jumped into the bandwagon of Desk-bound people.
We all seemed really happy as we were living the dreams- Own dreams or the dreams Parents had for us. But the ratio of latter was much more.
Six years down the line, I am still there questioning myself –
Does this job matches with my Lifestyle expectation? To that, another question emerges-
What is Lifestyle?
Lifestyle is expressed in both work and leisure behavior patterns and (on an individual basis) in activities, attitudes, interests, opinions, values, and allocation of income.
We all have different prioritizes and well, they change with time too.
When I joined my first job, I had no priority but to just start my Career as soon as I can.
When I applied for MNC job, I wanted to prove myself that I too can clear the written exam.
When I switched to second job, I had a dream of moving to a New city and Fast life.
When I quit my MNC job, I wanted to live with my Family.
See- Priorities changed in mere 3 years of time.
Look out for the thing which is top priority for you- what makes you feel satisfactory.
It also reflects people’s self image or self concept; the way they see themselves and believe they are seen by the others.
Who doesn’t want a luxurious lifestyle and it comes automatically with IT. Air-conditioned Offices, Influential people around, Occasional perks and parties, Fun outings.
As soon as we exit out of College Life, we tend to enter a Rat-race. We want to prove ourselves.
Lifestyle is not something what Others want from us- Its the one we see when we look into Mirror.
Lifestyle is a composite of motivations, needs, and wants and is influenced by factors such as culture, family, reference groups, and social class.
Holds true for me because I was being motivated and my Family wanted me to live this Lifestyle.
This is the main reason Why we feel we are not living our dream jobs- Our decisions are influenced by our Families, our Needs and our Culture.
At that sensitive age, we doubt our own choices and accept what others choose for us.
Now, here am I doing introspection and making continuous efforts for the Lifestyle I wanted, for the Dreams I had for myself, for the person I wanted to grow into.
Ask yourself the following questions to get the answer:
