“Share the load” is a way to introduce Gender Sensitization, which is an integral part of Parenting these days.
It was Sunday and Rashmi, a Mother of 2 Kids, wanted to relax and enjoy it after a long tiring week at Work.
It was 7 am and the House was still silent. She wanted to make the most of it.
The moment she stepped out in the Balcony to relish her Coffee on her favorite Jute Swing, she was welcomed by a pile of Laundry that needs to be done.
Her plans came crashing down. Suddenly, a message Beeped on her phone. It was an Ad from Ariel. She jumped with joy as if she hit the jackpot.
She continued with her Coffee and started her Sunday the way she wanted.
She was waiting for everyone to get up. She had a plan now!
Once the breakfast got over, she announced to everyone to dip their dirty clothes into the buckets.
There was a label on each bucket: White clothes, Tshirts/ Tops, Jeans/Pants
Also, there was a Note “Share the load” labeled with Instructions:
- Pour 1 tbsp of Detergent
- Pour the water as per the number of clothes
- Dip the clothes in
- Wait for 1/2 hour
- Look out for the strains, rub them
- Load them into the washer/spinner
- Hang items to air dry
It was a huge task for them but then Rashmi came and asked his Son and Husband to do it together while having fun.
They did not lose out on family fun plus she got some helping hands.
It was a Sunday, well spent.
A Family who does laundry together stays together.
Laundry need not be a single person’s Job- Involve the family! Even little ones can help with laundry. Teach your kids how to fold and put away their clothes and with consistency and practice, they’ll learn how to manage their laundry on their own.
One’s gender should not define the roles he or she needs to do and Laundry is no exception. Like every other skill, household chores can be better learned in childhood. To make tomorrow better we need to make changes today.
